Love the app and the new improvements, but the icing on the cake would be a gpx import facility. You can export to gpx, so why not import?
I already have the gpx file, so I don't really want to sit have to recreate the 100k route on the website.
Please consider adding this functionality, imo it would put this biking app ahead of the others on the iphone.

So, what you're doing is creating the route yourself and then exporting it as a gpx?

Currently I like to create circular routes in google maps or map-my-ride and then export them to cyclemeter by importing a gpx so I can remember the route and track performance on trading rides. That works ok but there's no turn by turn instructions. Hence I need to stop regularly and consult the map.
If i could load the same route into bike hub, and have It give turn by turn instructions, then I would have a comprehensive solution that would help me keep me on route.

Next update is a basic one (just the 'how to' vid link) and then there's more involved one, with background audio tweaks and ability to request shortest, quickest etc without having to add to/from details again.
Excellent thanks. There seems to be a real gap in the market for an App that has both turn-by-turn navigation (like Bike-hub) and route/performance tracking (like cyclemeter/strava/mapmyride).
Providing GPX import will close that gap. As a longer term solution though, if you added cyclemeter type functionality to BH then you would have a killer product and, as ktchick states, it would 100% become by 1st choice of bike apps.
I agree with the comments previously too. I've looked far and wide for a fit for purpose smart phone 'tom tom' like app that performs the same as a Garmin 800 (for example). To my mind, we who have a smart phone wouldn't need to add the expense of a another device and are talking a saving of several hundred pounds. Someone mentioned cornering the market and I think that's exactly what will be achieved if the user can upload at least a .gpx file to the app THEN/AND be able to follow that route turn by turn.

I have to add my request this - even if we could only do it on the web and then we could upload the map to the app.
I am doing the nightrider event in 10 days and it is annoying that I can't use my phone as my satnav - bike hub is great for navigation to get to a place but no way of putting pre planned routes. This is a very common thing for cyclists to do. Once this feature is in - it could lead to a whole new set of feature that could be added - currently the only option is to splash £300 on a garmin with is silly as it has the same hardware as the phone I bought - just not the extra coding - with this functionality it would be more than far to ask user to pay for a + version of bikehub.
So right now I have a gpx file of my route for the nightride but no way of importing it into a turn by turn satnav application. I can import it into my cyclemeter app - but that is only going to give me information on the and show me if I am off course - it does not offer voice turn by turn instructions.
I'm doing LEJOG soon and am currently working on routes for the ride. Love the BikeHub app and really want to use it to guide me all the way from Lands End to John O'Groats! However, once I've got the final route I can't import it into the app - please please add this functionality!
One other thing... could you add a facility to turn off (or even change) the [very loud] 'ding' before the spoken turn by turn instructions are announced please? When you are riding a long way it does give you an ear ache!

Importing GPX routing requires some work with Cyclestreets, so can't be done quickly or cheaply. We're still evaluating it.

Allowing for KML files as well would be great if you could do it at the same time.
We can certainly look at this. I suspect the same issues will be involved i.e. reworking routing pull-downs from Cyclestreets.

GPX route planing is something that is really lacking from this otherwise perfect app. News on when the feature is would be great
Since the gpx import is starting to look like it will never happen, does anyone know of any alternative navigation apps that are suitable for using on a bike and can import a gpx file?
The GPX import feature was commissioned on Tuesday, along with a number of tweaks.
How long will it take from 'commissioning' to release of the GPX import function?
Also, how will we know when it's released?

Most 'serious' cyclists like to plan a route before they go cycling, and it's never the shortest or flattest way from a to b! (and a usually is b) Thus, the Garmin 800 type gps is popular with such cyclists (at £300 +).
If you can get your system to allow download from a pc to the bike hub, then the advantages of the large easy to see display of a smart phone over the Garmin type will indeed make it a winner. With a Mophie wrap around battery, the endurance should be sufficient for a 7hr.

@andyjwardle Yes, esp for hi-res screens. I use a Morphie back-up battery, too.
Would suggest you have a look at the 'ride with gps' website to see how a route is planned -( you just drop pin after pin and it links them in the order you drop them, so you can double back and start and finish at the same point, or do figure of 8 routes etc etc ) - as a starter for an in-app route creator, if you are planning one. Haven't seen any app that allows such easy route construction.

I hope the accelerometer will be used so the maps seen will be in the correct orientation of where the bike is facing.
