10,000 cyclists expected at CTC York Cycle Show
11/06/2008 News10,000 visitors are expected to come to one of the highlights in the cycling calendar the CTC York Cycle Show at York Racecourse.
The show offers a huge a range of activities over the weekend for novice cyclists to experts including:
Mountain bike stunt shows, other displays and exhibitions
An opportunity to test out biking skills against double Olympic gold medallist, James Cracknell at the Nokia pavilion
CTC’ Ron Kitching Challenge Ride
Day rides and a Young Riders’ Challenge
On Saturday there will be a hog roast supper & real ale bar
On Sunday there will be a Grand Cycle Parade through York to the Minster for a special service for cyclists
Chair of the CTC York Cycle Show Committee, Paul Hepworth said: “The CTC York Cycle Show is one of the biggest events for cyclists. Since it started in 1945, it has encouraged thousands to take up cycling. If you are a cyclist or you want start cycling it is a great place to get information, advice and a bike at a bargain price. There’ also a range of guided rides around York to suit every cyclist. We hope that by taking part in a Bike Week event, families will rediscover how much fun cycling is and will be encouraged to keep cycling the whole year round.”
Cyclists will be able to head over to the Nokia Bike Week pavilion, chill out on comfy sofas to recharge themselves and their phones or try out their biking skills against double Olympic gold medallist, James Cracknell, to be in the running to win a new top of the range bike. Roaming ‘Personal Navigators’ will be out chatting to people about cycling and handing out scratch cards to win goodies, including top of the range GPS-enabled phones, kit bags, and accessories.

Admission to most of the show is free. Adults who want to visit the trade marquees will need to buy a £2.50 event programme (accompanied under-sixteens are admitted free).
