Scottish cycle org puts on a corker of a show for Bike Week

ED’s Cycle Co-op of East Dunbartonshire won the ‘Bike Week Image of the Week’ in 2010 and 2011. Will it do it again in 2012?

It helps to have an excellent photographer as one of the four volunteer board members. Mark Kiehlmann takes some cracking shots, including the one below, featuring the area’s oldest, and one of its youngest, cyclists. Kiehlmann is a Bikeabilty Scotland cycle tutor. He helps to organise ED’s Cycle Festival.

This will be staged this Sunday, 17th June, from 2pm to 5pm, and is one of the kick-off events for Samsung Bike Week, a UK-wide celebration of everything cycling.

ED’s Cycle Festival is action-packed: there will be demonstrations from a bike stunt team; an AirBag (“so that you can try out the stunts you see performed by the professionals”); a mountain bike dual slalom race; a BMX ramp; and an obstacle course for the wee ones, as well as a bouncy castle.

ED’s Cycle Co-op aims to promote cycling to children and adults in East Dunbartonshire. ED’s Cycle Co-op is a not for profit community social enterprise that is registered as a Scottish Company. There are currently four member of the board, who are all volunteers for the project.

The social enterprise’s other board members are Alasdair Macdonald, a former secondary school head teacher and currently a Sustrans co-ordinator for Glasgow; Angus MacFadyen, who has children attending a Bishopbriggs primary school; and Anne McNair, a local councillor.

ED’s Cycle Co-op runs bike friendly events and workshops year round, and is instrumental at getting more people on bikes.
