The visit will be hosted by the Cycle Cambridge team based at the County Council and include a cycling tour of the city to show the MPs some of Cambridge’s exemplar cycling facilities. The trip will include looking at the Grand Arcade Cycle Park, Carter (Station) Bridge and Riverside Bridge.

During their visit the group will officially open a new state-of-the-art cycle parking facility at Kings Hedges primary school. Pupils and teachers who cycle to the school will meet the MPs to discuss the importance of cycling to school and benefits of being able to park their bikes safely and securely.

Other key points of interest that the MPs will learn about include the cycle cattle grids which assist cyclists when getting across open spaces, contra-flow cycle lanes and examples of routes using solar powered cat’s eyes.

Plans for the multi-million pound Cycle Cambridge programme will be presented to the group including Hills Road Bridge and the £200,000 investment in secure cycle parking at schools in Cambridge.

Cambridgeshire County Councillor Roy Pegram, Cabinet Member for Growth, Infrastructure and Strategic Planning said: “Cambridgeshire County Council is committed to providing improved facilities for environmentally friendly forms of transport such as cycling. This visit will give us an opportunity to showcase the good work we have already done, as well as setting out our future plans associated with the Cycle Cambridge programme”

Patrick Joyce, Cycling Officer for Cambridgeshire County Council said: “We are delighted to be hosting this delegation and look forward to showing them the range of cycling infrastructure we have in Cambridge and to tell them of our plans for the future”

The Cycle Cambridge scheme aims to encourage more bicycle journeys and increase the levels of cycling in Cambridge’s surrounding villages and new developments to equivalent levels within the city. The programme is being managed and delivered by Cambridgeshire County Council in partnership with Cambridge City Council and South Cambridgeshire District Council.
