Derby City Council has been designated as a Centre of Excellence in local transport planning by the DfT, and is sharing best practice with other local authority transport specialists in an event on Tuesday 18th March.
At the Transforming Transport Choices event, Derby’ transport professionals and their partners will share experiences of successful partnership working to promote measures that encourage people to make smarter and more sustainable transport choices.

The next steps for local authorities in strengthening the link between sustainable travel choices and health will be debated, and successful projects in Derby and Darlington, two of the UK’ six Cycle Demonstration Towns, will be examined.
The day will include presentations on CycleDerby, Derby’ Cycling Demonstration Town initiative, the Local Motion scheme in Darlington and the National Sustrans BikeIt project.

There will also be a workshop hosted by the Government Office for the East Midlands (GOEM), leading on the Cycling and Health Innovation Pilot Studies (CHIPS), exploring the links between cycling and health, and helping people to build physical activity into their lives.

Rosie Winterton MP, Minister of State for Transport, has been invited to contribute to this event as part of a calendar of engagements she is undertaking in Derby on the day.
