Kirklees produces bike ride book
12/02/2008 NewsThe guidebook is being officially launched at the start of an ‘Easy Riders’ cycle ride from Mirfield Railway Station on Saturday, March 1, at 10am.
The book provides all the information and maps needed to enjoy 14 cycle rides in and around Kirklees. The graded routes vary in length from eight to 54 miles and from an easy ride from Honley to Holmfirth to an all-day ride from Dewsbury to Lotherton Hall.
Priced £2.99, it also includes information on where people can cycle in the countryside and advice on how to cycle responsibly. It includes a foreword by cyclist and TV presenter Adam Hart-Davis.
After the launch, the cyclists in the Kirklees Easy Riders group will be going for a ride to Bowling Park, Bradford, on the Calderdale and Spen Valley Greenways.
The cyclists will return to Mirfield for buffet refreshments at the library on Huddersfield Road at around 1.30pm.
The book, funded by Kirklees Council CWI Energy and Water Conservation Fund: Transport Allocation, is a result of the partnership between Huddersfield CTC and Kirklees Council to promote cycling locally.
“We are happy to support this initiative as it increases countryside access and helps to lift the profile of Kirklees as a tourist destination. Cycling is a pleasant leisure activity which gets you out into the countryside and in Kirklees we have some spectacular countryside to explore,” said Councillor Liz Smaje, Kirklees Cabinet Member of Leisure and Neighbourhood Services.
