Pedal for Scotland is an annual mass participation cycle ride organised by Cycling Scotland.

Normally it’s run from Glasgow to Edinburgh.
This year the event – staged on 28th August – runs in reverse because of the Glasgow start of the Tour of Britain professional stage race.
The 50-mile route starts at Murrayfield in Edinburgh and finishes at the Tour of Britain start line in George Square, Glasgow.

Last year the event attacted 1200 entrants. The official charities of the ride are Barnardo’s and Children 1st.

Michael Addiscott, events officer for Cycling Scotland, told Bikeforall.net:

“There is a prize for the largest team. We are also keen to recruit volunteers to assist on the route, and anyone able to help will, as with the Tour of Britain race itself, receive a goody bag.

“This is a great opportunity to enjoy the thrill of crossing the finish line of a major sporting event at a leisurely pace that can be enjoyed by almost anyone.

As well as a civic send-off from Edinburgh, riders will be supplied with food, warm drinks and music at Linlithgow provided in partnership with West Lothian Council, home baking at Avonbridge Church, snacks at Coatbridge and a civic reception as they ride down the Tour of Britain’s start straight in Glasgow.

A bus service will be available to ferry riders and their bikes to the start or back to Edinburgh from the finish.

Brian Curtis, Pedal for Scotland chairman, said:

“Pedal for Scotland has always been intended to show that a day’s cycling can be enjoyable and accessible for people of all kinds of backgrounds, ages and abilities. We’ve had riders from as young as six to over seventy years of age completing the route, and it’s always an inspiration to see the sense of empowerment and achievement as riders cross the line at the end of the ride.”
