Sustrans Scotland launches Routes2Ride website
25/03/2008 NewsRoutes2Ride is a community website where registered members can share their experiences of cycling in Scotland, add their own favourite bike rides and post comments on routes currently on the site.
Rides are categorised into challenging, moderate, easy and suitable for families and by location to help users find a route which best suits their ability. Each ride has a dedicated page with a brief description of the route, distance, time required, surface, route number, start and finish points, access, map with points of interest clearly marked – and also a four-day weather forecast.
Each ride-specific page highlights natural attractions like lochs, forests, standing stones and rivers alongside visitor attractions like cathedrals, castles and museums. Routes2Ride also boasts an RSS feed for easy updates.
John Lauder, Sustrans’ National Director for Scotland, said: “Routes2Ride is a really user-friendly website which has been developed specifically for people to share their experiences of cycling in Scotland and find new rides to try out. We have over 1,800 miles of National Cycle Network in Scotland, and lots of local and regional routes, and the new website will help people get out in the fresh air and explore them.”
Minister for Transport Infrastructure and Climate Change Stewart Stevenson said: “I welcome the launch of this new website which will highlight the best cycling routes through our wonderful Scottish countryside. Hopefully more people will benefit from getting on their bikes and enjoying a healthy day out in the fresh air.”
Sustrans is currently developing a Welsh version of the new website to be launched in the summer, with Routes2Ride for England and Northern Ireland to follow.
